Chongwe Municipal Council has received a total of K16.1 Million from the 2024 Constituency Development Fund (CDF) allocation, representing 53 percent of the K30.6 Million allocation.
The local authority has since spent K15.6 Million representing 97 percent expenditure from the total amount received.
Speaking in an interview with ZANIS, Chongwe Municipal Council Public Relations Officer Peter Sukwa said the local authority allocated a total of K16.6 Million towards the 2024 community projects in the district.
Mr Sukwa explained that on the community projects, the local authority will spend K4.6 Million on the purchase of fuel for the road rehabilitations.
He said K1 Million will go towards the purchase of a Tractor for the district which is on the contractual signing stage and K3 Million will go towards contribution for the contraction of the Chongwe Modern Market at the ShowGrounds.
Mr Sukwa further added that K1 Million will be spent on the electrification of some selected public places under the Rural Electrification Authority (REA).
He said local authority will also spend K3.2 Million for the procurement of 2500 desks to cater for the growing demand of desks in schools.
Mr Sukwa stated that the K128, 000 that was meant for completion of an ablution block at Kanakantapa Health Centre had been channeled towards drilling of community boreholes as the initial project of the ablution block has been adopted by a donor.
He said under the Skills Development component, the local authority has allocated a total of K5.8 Million for both Skills Development and Secondary Boarding School.
“From the total allocation, K3.6 Million went towards Skills Development Bursaries for 333 new and returning students while K1, 295,560 went towards bursaries for 664 new and returning Boarding Secondary School pupils,” he said.
Mr Sukwa also revealed that the local authority disbursed the 2024 CDF grants amounting to K2.2 Milion to 105 groups in the constituency.
He further indicated that a total of K3.3 Million has been disbursed to 19 groups and individuals from a total of 21 successful selected beneficiaries.
