CHIAWA ZONE GETS 330 DESKS TO BE DISTRIBUTED IN 8 SCHOOLS

Government in partnership with Primrose Community Organisation has handed over 330 desks to 8 schools in Chiawa Zone of Kafue District.

290 desks were procured under the 2023 Constituency Development Fund (CDF) allocation while 40 were donated by the Primrose Community Organisation of Kafue District.

Kafue Member of Parliament Mirriam Chonya said the 290 desks were part of the 2,910 desks procured at the total cost of K3.2 Million from the 2023 Constituency Development Fund.

ZANIS reports that the MP was speaking during the joint handover ceremony of desks at Gota-Gota School in Chiawa.

“These 290 are part of 2910 desks procured at a total cost of K3, 128.250.00 from the 2023 CDF,” said Ms Chonya.

Ms Chonya noted that the handover of desks are in line with the government’s free education policy to ensure equitable access and opportunities for high-quality education by all children, irrespective of their socio-economic or gender status.

She stated that the free education policy guarantees every Zambian child, irrespective of their financial circumstances, to have an equal chance to seek education and realise their full potential.

“The free education policy guarantees that every Zambian Child, irrespective of their financial circumstances, has an equal chance to seek education and realise their full potential,” Ms Chonya said.

And Kafue District Education Board Secretary Berlina Moono highlighted a critical shortage and need for school desks in the outskirts of the district following the experienced high enrolment of learners.

Mrs Moono, however, was elated with the handover of desks to eight schools that have an enrollment of 4,457 pupils in the Chiawa Zone.

She added that the 290 desks from CDF and 40 desks by Primrose will cater for 660 learners per session hence significantly improving the quality of education at the respective schools.

“The handing over of 290 Desks from CDF and 40 desks by Primrose being witnessed today, will be able to accommodate 660 learners per session, hence significantly improving the quality education provision at the recipient schools and the district,” said Mrs Moono.

Meanwhile, Chiawa Zonal Head Teacher Nunkwe Ackim said the received desks will greatly boost the desk situation in the zone.

Mr Nunkwe noted that the shortage of desks was a big problem as most learners were sitting on the floor due to high enrolment levels following the introduction of free education.

“The Shortage of desks was a big problem as we had a lot of our learners sitting on the floor due to high enrolment levels brought about by free education,” said Mr Nunkwe.

He further thanked the Primrose Community Organisation for donating desks and the government through CDF for handing over desks to eight Schools in the Chiawa Zone.
