Lusaka Province Permanent Secretary Robert Kamalata, has called for aggressive approaches in the fight against HIV/AIDS pandemic in the province.
Mr Kamalata says the HIV/AIDS prevalence rate has remained high in the province and has since called on stakeholders to revisit the sensitisation campaigns among the adolescents.
The Permanent Secretary was speaking when he officiated at the Provincial HIV/AIDS Committee Meeting in Lusaka today.
He added that the HIV/AIDS prevalence rate stands at 15.1 percent countrywide, adding that over 3,000 people were on Antiretroviral Treatment (ART) in Lusaka Province alone.
“We are about 20 million in Zambia and over three thousand people are on ART, which is high for the province alone,” he said.
Mr Kamalata has further urged people on ART to be consistent and adhere to treatment as prescribed by the medical personnel.
Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights Africa Trust Country Director, Lenganji Nanyangwe, indicated that the HIV/AIDS prevalence rate is high between the ages of 15 to 24 years old.
Ms Nanyangwe further called for collaborative efforts among stakeholders to curb the pandemic.
