The Mushika Royal Establishment of Shikabeta Chiefdom has commended mining companies in Rufunsa District who are supplementing Government efforts by uplifting living standards of people in the area.
Speaking in an interview with ZANIS in Rufunsa District, Chief Shikabeta’s representative, Agness Kalonga said that it is important for the mining firms who wish to carry out their mining activities in the district to pay back to the community by improving the existing infrastructure for the benefit of community members.
Ms Kalonga commended Gold Hunters limited, a mining company in the district that has helped to improve the living standards of people in Shikabeta Chiefdom.
“I would like to urge miners in our chiefdom to emulate Gold Hunters,’’ said Ms Kalonga.
Ms Kalonga disclosed that Gold Hunters has helped drill a borehole in the chiefdom and has also rehabilitated the main arena.
“We are happy with investors such as Gold Hunters who have constructed the shelter where our ceremony is usually held and they have also put up two boreholes at Kabumbo Mines and they are also planning to build a school and a clinic,” said Ms Kalonga.
The Chief Representative however, said they are ready to welcome new investors in the chiefdom especially those who are willing to spearhead Government efforts.
“There is a lot of Gold that is coming from our chiefdom but it is sad to note that we are still poor,” lamented Ms Kalonga.
