CHONGWE COMMUNITY GIVEN HIPPO ROLLERS

Mudoka Zambia Limited Company, a private company based in Chongwe District in partnership with Lugwasho Foundation has given out 440 Hippo Rollers worth $80,000 dollars to some households in Kapete ward for storage of water.

In a speech read on his behalf by Kapete ward councilor Francis Kabichi during the handover of the rollers, Chongwe District Commissioner Evans Lupiya stated that the donation will help the residents to store their water safely and prevent water borne diseases.

Dr. Lupiya noted that the district usually grappled with the spread of water borne diseases during the rainy season adding that the intervention will assist residents to fetch and carry water from various sources with ease.

He commended the two organisations for working with communities to address water and sanitation challenges.

“challenges being faced by people in the ward require collective efforts to be addressed as demonstrated by the two organisations which have been working closely with members of the community in the area,” Dr. Lupiya said.

Dr. Lupiya called on other stakeholders to emulate the two organisations by rendering assistance to residents in the area through such gestures.

Meanwhile, Mudoka Zambia Limited Company Director Amanda Nakazwe stated that the organisation decided to donate the rollers to residents in the area to help them to alleviate water challenges.

Ms. Nakazwe stated that the storage equipment is essential in the prevention of water borne diseases and also encouraged residents to ensure they are kept closed at all times to prevent any contamination of water which will be stored in them.

Speaking on behalf of residents in the area, Senior Headman Nkondola of Nkondola Village thanked the two organisations for donating the rollers to residents in the ward.

Senior Headman Nkondola said the rollers are critical in improving access to water and ensuring that it is safely stored.

The traditional leader implored those who received the rollers not sell them and use them for their intended purpose.

“I do not want to hear that these Hippo Rollers which we have been given today, are being sold. A lot of resources were used for these rollers to be brought to us so let us show gratitude by not selling them and taking good care of them,” Headman Nkondola said.
