Government has paid over one million kwacha worth of rental relief to 180 families whose houses were extensively flooded in Lusaka.
The beneficiaries include 54 in Matero, 96 from Chaisa and 30 from John Laing townships.
The households have been given K6,000 each which translates into K2000 rental relief by three months.
Lusaka District Commissioner Rosa Zulu who flagged off the exercise urged the beneficiaries to quickly find alternative accommodation.
Ms Zulu cautioned the beneficiaries against returning back to their old homes.
She said the government was concerned about their welfare hence the decision to pay them rental relief for them to find decent housing.
The District Commissioner also expressed relief that there were no incidences of water borne diseases breaking out in the three camps where flood victims were temporarily accommodated by DMMU.
And a beneficiary, Emmanuel Sengwe thanked the government for the support during the three week period at the temporal camp in Chaisa, adding that the rental relief will help in finding better accommodation.
DMMU found temporal camps in Matero, John Laing and Chaisa townships where the flood victims were accommodated.
