LUSAKA MINISTER TOASTS ZAMBIA, ZIMBABWE RELATIONS

Lusaka Province Minister Sheal Mulyata says Zambia and Zimbabwe enjoy warm relations shared through the Kavalamanja-Kakararo commemorations.

And Zimbabwean High Commissioner to Zambia, Charity Charamba paid tribute to Zambia’s founding father, late Kenneth Kaunda for helping the Southern African region in the liberation struggle.

Speaking in Luangwa during the occasion to mark the 47th anniversary of the Kavalamanja-Kakararo atrocities, Ms Mulyata said common cultural and heritage between the two countries strengthens the bonds.

Ms Mulyata added that it is not a surprise that the liberation wars of Zimbabwe were largely fought in Zambia, because of the brotherly relations the two countries share.

The Provincial Minister said the historical connection reinforces the importance of safeguarding relationships in the Southern African region.

And Ms Charamba said Dr Kaunda played a major role in the liberation of the Southern African country.

She added that relations between the two countries have evolved over the years as the country cooperates variously under the Joint Permanent Commission of Cooperation and the Joint Permanent Commission on Defence and Security, currently going on in Victoria Falls Town in Zimbabwe.

Meanwhile, National Heritage Conservation Commission, East-Central Regional Director, Muyumbwa Ndiyoi urged the local community to safeguard the Kavalamanja culture heritage site.

Mr Ndiyoi bemoaned the high levels of vandalism at natural heritage sites.
