President Hakainde Hichilema has been bestowed with Indunaship by Paramount Chief Mpezeni of the Ngoni people of Eastern Province.
Paramount Chief Mpezeni says this is in recognition of Mr Hichilema’s continued commitment to unifying the country and his sound leadership.
Paramount Chief Mpezeni who has also presented (Nchezo), an indunaship spear to President Hichilema, clarified that even when Mr Hichilema leaves the Presidency, he will continue to be an Induna in his chiefdom.
Paramount Chief Mpezeni called on Zambians to give the chance to President Hakainde Hichilema to rule the country in harmony.
The traditional leader says there can only be one President at a time, hence the need for all well-meaning Zambians to support the President as he presides over the affairs of the nation without being distracted.
ZANIS reports that Paramount Chief Mpezeni was speaking when President Hichilema paid a courtesy call on him at Laweni Palace ahead of the Nc’wala traditional ceremony.
ZANIS reports that Paramount Chief Mpezeni expressed happiness that President Hichilema provided quality leadership at a time when the country experienced serious droughts in the last farming season.
“I am very happy with you, Mr President, with regards to how you handled national affairs during the drought, that was quality leadership, but we have enough rains this year and the Province will record a bumper harvest, “Paramount Chief Mpezeni said.
He pointed out that there are a lot of developmental programmes that Eastern Province has recorded since President Hichilema assumed the presidency.
President Hichilema thanked Paramount Chief Mpezeni for his continued promotion of peace and unity in the country.
Mr Hichilema also thanked God that he answered the country’s prayers during the drought period.
“God has answered our prayers, I am optimistic that the province will have a good harvest, because when I was coming I saw a lot of good fields, “President Hichilema said.
The Head of State said despite the food shortages exacerbated by the droughts last year, the government made sure that no one died of hunger.
Mr Hichilema further called for continued peace that the country has sustained since time immemorial.
President Hichilema is in Chipata District officiating at the Nc’wala traditional ceremony.
The Nc’wala ceremony is a yearly celebration in Zambia’s Eastern Province that honours the Ngoni people’s first harvest and rich heritage.
It is a time for thanksgiving, reflection, and paying homage to ancestors by the Ngoni people.
The Nc’wala ceremony is a vital part of Ngoni cultural identity, it strengthens their sense of community, history, and connection to the land.
It has become a popular tourist attraction, allowing visitors to witness a unique cultural celebration.
