Two schools in Mwembeshi Ward of Chilanga district have received a total of 200 desks procured at a total cost of K298,000 under the 2024 Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
Chilanga Town Council Public Relations Officer Luyando Sikazwa, says the two schools that have benefitted are Mwembeshi Day Secondary School and Mpamba Primary School.
Mr Sikazwa explained to ZANIS that at Mwembeshi Day Secondary School received 160 desks while at Mpamba Primary School the school received 40 desks.
“For years, learners in some parts of Chilanga District sat on the floor during lessons, striving to focus and learn under difficult conditions. The story is changing with the procurement of more desks which brings comfort, dignity, and renewed hope to both pupils and teachers,” he said.
Mr Sikazwa pointed out that through policies such as free education, reintroduction of meal allowances, and student and skills training bursaries under the CDF, the government is demonstrating that education is not just a priority but it is a game changer.
Mr Sikazwa added that the Republican President Mr. Hakainde Hichilema gave a clear directive that no child should sit on the floor while learning and this commitment is being realized in Chilanga.
Mwembeshi Day School Headteacher Kasapo Mutale said the desks will transform the classrooms as learners will now sit comfortably and concentrate.
She expressed gratitude to the government for the support through the constituency Development Fund (CDF).
