MULYATA HAPPY WITH COOPERATIVE GROUPS IN KAFUE

Lusaka Province Minister Sheal Mulyata has expressed happiness that cooperatives are making progress in Kafue District.

ZANIS reports that Ms. Mulyata, who graced the International Cooperatives Day in Kafue District, noted that cooperatives are engines of economic growth, offering a dynamic and flexible avenue for production, marketing, and service delivery.

She said the cooperative movement empowers disadvantaged groups to gain a voice and mobilise in pursuit of their common economic interests.

“I feel happy that we are making progress and cooperatives are getting the kind of attention they deserve within Kafue District,” said Ms. Mulyata.

She further urged cooperators to participate in building a future anchored on innovation and inclusivity for all in order to build a better Kafue.

Kafue District Cooperative and Entrepreneurship Development Officer Silumbwa Sitwala said the Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises in Kafue has made strides, as several cooperatives are bringing economic transformations to the district.

Ms. Sitwala stated that most cooperators are witnessing improved livelihoods and those of their communities.

She said this in a speech read on her behalf by Kafue District Commissioner Maurice Hikapulwe.

“As a Ministry, we are pleased to see the strides various cooperatives are making to improve their livelihoods and their contributions to the improvement of their local communities,’’ said Ms Sitwala.

Meanwhile, Kafue District Cooperative Marketing Union Chairperson Preston Simuchende called for the revamping of the cooperative College to offer short and long quality courses to cooperatives.

Mr. Simuchende stated that with the increasing number of cooperatives in the district, revamping the cooperative college would empower cooperators with the necessary knowledge on management.

He further appealed for the revamping of the cooperative bank where cooperatives can borrow and invest to foster economic development.

“We are appealing for the revamping of the cooperative college to offer short and long quality courses to cooperatives and the revamping of the cooperative bank where cooperatives can borrow and invest to foster economic development,” said Mr. Simuchende.

This year’s International Cooperative Day was commemorated under the Theme Cooperatives Build a Better World.
