LUSAKA DISTRICT ADMINISTRATION WORKERS WARNED

Lusaka District Administrative Officer, O’neil Chiiya, has called on members of staff at the district administration to adhere to the public code of ethics and the disciplinary code.

Mr. Chiiya, who quoted the revised disciplinary code, explained that a disciplined workforce is essential for government to achieve its objectives.

He said this during a continuous district professional development meeting in Lusaka.

He observed that absenteeism, reporting late for work, poor supervision and leaving early before the stipulated knocking off hours are some of the offences that should be avoided by the officers in the various government departments.

“There is tendency of officers using government time to do their personal businesses, that we cannot tolerate,” he said.

Mr. Chiiya warned that the government system is aware of such erring officers and will ensure that the culprits are brought to book.

He further cited sexual harassment, reporting for work while drunk and participating in active politics as other common offences.

And the administrative officer has explained that the law against sexual harassment protects everyone hence officers should report to the relevant authorities when sexually abused.

Mr. Chiinya described sexual harassment as a serious offence that should be reported immediately it occurs.

He has since urged the officers under his administration to embrace and understand the revised code of conduct and the public service disciplinary code.

Mr. Chiiya has meanwhile directed the district heads of department to regularly hold continuous district professional development meetings for effective supervision and ensure professionalism in their various operations.

“Hold these meetings in your departments to strengthen and support each other,” he said.

The district administrative officer hoped that the district would attain high discipline practices and levels of performance.

The district continuous professional development meeting was held to discuss professional, administrative and human resource issues.
