Kafue Member of Parliament Miriam Chonya, has called for the resuscitation of more industries in the area.
Ms Chonya noted that Kafue was designed to be an industrial town second to Ndola; however, most of the industries are no longer operational.
Ms Chonya made the call when the Minister of Trade, Commerce and Industry, Chipoka Mulenga, visited Kafue to assess the progress on the new Nitrogen plant under construction.
She called for the call back of Kafue textiles, Kwaza, among other industries, in a bid to boost the economic activities of the town.
“Honorable Minister, the recapitalization of NCZ is a big score for Kafue, but looking at what Kafue was, we are appealing for more industries to come back, like Kwazi and Kafue Textiles,” said Ms. Chonya.
Ms Chonya also appealed for NCZ to be given an increased share of fertilizer production under the Farm Support Input Program.
She stated that the installation of the new fertilizer plants will result in increased production, hence calling for expanded market share.
Ms. Chonya stated that, as Much as NCZ has a foreign market to supply the fertilizer to, the local market should also be expanded.
“The expansion of NCZ comes with increased production, and Honorable Minister, I appeal that NCZ be given an increased share of fertilizer supply under FISP,” she stated.
