LCC EMPOWERS 394 COOPERATIVES AND CLUBS IN CHAWAMA

The Lusaka City Council (LCC) has empowered a total of 394 cooperatives and clubs in Chawama Constituency with Constituency Development Fund (CDF) grants since 2022.

In a statement made available to ZANIS by Lusaka City Council Assistant Public Relations Manager, Nyambe Bulumba, stated that the funding aims at providing critical start-up and expansion capital for local small-scale businesses, contributing to job creation and improved livelihoods.

Mr Bulumba revealed that a total of Eight Million, Seven Hundred Thirty-Three Thousand, One Hundred Forty-Four Kwacha (K8,733,144) was allocated by the government to support the initiative, facilitating effective program implementation.

He said the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to promoting economic empowerment and enhancing entrepreneurial capacity among residents, thereby reducing poverty and overdependence on formal employment.

“In line with CDF guidelines, the Local Authority has continued to monitor and support grant recipients, ensuring proper fund utilisation and sustainability,” he added.

Mr Bulumba further added that the council remains committed to inclusive development across Lusaka district by promoting self-reliance and strengthening income-generating ventures.
