Chilanga District Education Board Secretary (DEBS) Lenny Longwe has noted the need to invest in school sports infrastructure in order to unleash the various sports talents of learners.
Ms. Longwe observes that investing in sports infrastructure in schools can help build mental strength and healthy lifestyles for boys and girls, thus providing equal opportunities for pupils to shine on the field and beyond.
Speaking when she officiated at the school Inter-Sector Sports Competition in Chilanga, Ms. Longwe noted that sports in schools play a vital role in shaping purposeful skills such as teamwork and leadership skills.
She observed that school sports activities help boys and girls unleash their potential in sports talents and become national heroes.
“Let us not forget that many national heroes in sport took their first step on dusty school grounds, guided by committed coaches and teachers,” observed Ms. Longwe.
She also indicated that including sports in the National Education policy is a solid investment for sports development in young people.
“Sports teaches young people to overcome defeat with grace, celebrate victory with humility, and work hard even when no one is watching,” stated Ms. Longwe.
She further encouraged pupils to not just play games but build a future that is inspiring to their peers and lift the flag of Zambia high.
“To the teachers and parents, thank you for believing in the dreams of these young people. Your encouragement is the foundation of their success,” said Ms. Longwe.
