Chongwe District Commissioner Evans Lupiya has expressed delight with the progress of the Mobile National Registration Cards (NRCs) issuance exercise being implemented by the Department of National Registration in the district.
Speaking to ZANIS in an interview, Dr. Lupiya states that there has been positive response from residents in the area who have been coming in large numbers to get their NRCs.
He noted that no complaints have been recorded from members of the public on the implementation of the exercise since its commencement in May, adding that this is a positive indicator for the district.
Dr. Lupiya explained that officers who have been undertaking the exercise are making efforts to ensure that people are attended to in the shortest period of time.
“NRCs are being issued everyday at the centres where our officers are located. The exercise starts as early as 6 and it lasts the whole day until the last person is attended to. We want to ensure that no one is left behind,” Dr. Lupiya said.
He added that he is pleased with the attitude exhibited by the officers who are issuing NRCs in the district as they have shown commitment towards their work.
Dr. Lupiya implored residents in the area to take advantage of the remaining period of time allocated towards the exercise to get their NRCs.
He also emphasised on the need for young people who have attained the legal age of acquiring their NRCs especially those residing in remote parts of the district, to ensure that they utilise the exercise.
“Youth especially those in distant areas of the district should not wait for next year to get their NRCs. This is the right time for them to get this important documentation as it will enable them to get a voters card next year,” Dr. Lupiya said.
The DC further stated that he is confident that the set target for the NRC issuance in the district will be achieved.
