This section is responsible for the preservation, protection and promotion of folk culture, tangible and intangible heritage for the enrichment, development and national identity. The Programme is aimed at the safeguarding of the country's folklore and Intangible Cultural Heritage(ICH) by promoting its inclusion into the mainstream of personal, community and national development. This is cardinal as it gives the sense of identity and belonging, linking our past through the present with our future. Some of the activities that are carried out under this programme are promotion of Traditional ceremonies, cultural dances, oral traditions and expressions including language as a vehicle of communication, social practices, rituals and rites of passage, traditional craftmanship and performing arts. The Programme further undertakes the construction of cultural infrastructure and its rehabilitation in order to provide space for Cultural practitioners to produce, market, distribute and sale their artistic products to the general public.

The section is responsible for effective coordination and implementation of policies, plans programs and projects relating to traditional affairs. It performs the following functions; overseeing the review of policy and legislation relating to traditional affairs, develop and implement a system for documenting tradition in the country, interface with traditional establishments with regard to the hosting of traditional ceremonies, develop and implement a system of ensuring government representation at traditional ceremonies and examine the efficiency of reviving traditional ceremonies that have been discarded by some chieftaincy over time.
